The Central Board of Experts (Centraal College van Deskundigen, CCvD) plays a key role in the management and further development of the CO2 Performance Ladder. This independent board—comprising representatives from government bodies, businesses, industry associations, knowledge institutions and civil society organisations—safeguards the substantive quality, reliability and relevance of the instrument.
The CO2 Performance Ladder is continuously evolving to better reflect societal developments, new insights and practical experiences. Within this context, the CCvD is responsible for drafting and approving new versions of the standard. The collaborative efforts of the CCvD have led to the creation of version 4.0 of the CO2 Performance Ladder.
‘Reaching consensus on version 4.0 with so many parties is something to be proud of.’
- Harald Versteeg (Independent Chair)
‘CO2 reduction is the starting point for a better climate, with new and innovative solutions to today’s seemingly insurmountable fossil barriers.’
- Madeleine Nagelkerke (Techniek Nederland)
‘Wonderful to see that after such a long and intensive process, the energy within the CCvD remains undiminished. It shows that the development of a new handbook really matters!’
- Tijmen de Groot (SKAO)
‘Tackling climate change is a responsibility we all share. With the CO2 Performance Ladder, we encourage one another to take ownership and turn goals into action.’
- Bob de Boer (Association of Dutch Water Authorities)
‘For me, it was important that version 4.0 became more understandable and accessible – suitable for all kinds of businesses, large and small, across various sectors. We mustn’t forget the smaller companies. Of course, we need frontrunners, but the entire pack needs to move along too. Collaboration is key, and every step towards reduction counts.’
- Bastina van Houwelingen (Cumela and MKB Infra)
‘The CCvD acts as the eyes and ears of the CO2 Performance Ladder. Version 4.0 is the result of countless dialogues, and I hope it helps organisations identify – and more importantly, realise – their maximum impact.’
- Ursula Zampieri (NLingenieurs)
‘A new standard with greater ambition was my main goal in the development of version 4.0. As a collective, we’ve succeeded in doing just that. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved!’
- Gijs Termeer (Climate Foundation HIER)
‘With version 4.0, a huge step has been taken to align the Ladder with the challenges of the coming years: working towards a climate-neutral society. Version 4.0 will help achieve that in a structured and demonstrable way.’
- Gerwin Schweitzer (Rijkswaterstaat)
‘Proud to have contributed on behalf of NVCi to the Central Board of Experts at SKAO. In collaboration with all parties involved, we’ve worked on a transparent, independent and future-proof standard – a solid foundation for version 4.0 of the CO2 Performance Ladder.’
- Johan Krook (Dutch Association of Certification Bodies)
‘For version 4.0, we developed a digital environment that provides organisations with additional explanations and practical examples for many of the requirements, making certification more accessible and easier to achieve.’
- Christiaan van der Spijk (SKAO)
‘The CO2 Performance Ladder has proven to be a powerful instrument for companies to achieve CO2 reduction and provides practical tools to take the first steps. With the development of version 4.0, we’ve gone a step further towards leaving behind a sustainable and healthy world, and living life to the fullest. By actively involving our members and the market, we aim for collective sustainable progress.’
- Marjan Kloos (Bouwend Nederland)
